Love to Travel

I just returned from attending the RWA conference in San Francisco, before which I spent the weekend in Wisconsin, and now I'm heading off to Colorado for some relaxation and research on a book idea. I LOVE to travel. Maybe because we didn't do much when I was growing up. Maybe because it's more interesting than cleaning my house (is that my husband laughing in the background?). Maybe because I'm meeting new people and seeing new places.
In Wisconsin, I met family I didn't know existed and toured a beautiful hospice facility outside Milwaukee. I had a wonderful time at the RWA conference, meeting old friends and new, even though I didn't see anything of the city or my family there. :( Fortunately, I'd been there four years ago and toured some of it with them then. Now I'm heading to the mountains, where I've heard the wildflowers are stunning. We'll see some family too.
So, do you have a travel preference? Like to visit where there's family? Prefer to go totally new places? And do you make hotel reservations or wing it?

I love to travel, too. I wish I could do more. My best vacation was to the Grand Canyon. My dh planned it and once we got there, we had NO schedule, NO expectations and it was glorious. It wasn't too expensive, either.

I'd love to go to the NW US, Alaska, Maine and CA.

I prefer not to travel. I love just staying home and working in my flower garden.

Mary, I love the Grand Canyon. We went when my first was barely toddling and I was pregnant two number two. Our room overlooked the canyon and sunset was amazing. I'd vote for OR or WA or ME next. :) Megan

Faisal, I love the pix there! I'm going to have to go back and investigate more thoroughly. Thanks for letting me know about it.

Estella, If I had any talent with plants, working in the garden would be restful. As it is, the "weeds" I pull were once carefully planted seeds or starts from friends. Now I'm trying to banish the ribbon grass and feverfew from my yard (whose idea were those?). Megan

I LOVE to travel and have done a whole lot of it. And want to do a whole lot more. I travel by car because on of my favorite things to do is take side trips if I see something I want to investigate. And lucky me I am now retired and have no family that depends on me so I can do as I please (and to heck with what the house looks like). I rarely made reservations unless it is some place that has a tendency to attract a lot of tourists. I have been to the Grand Canyon (and would like to go back), Yellowstone NP, Grand Tetons NP, Glacier NP, Bryce Canyon, Zion NP, Arches NP, Canyonlands NP,Rocky Mountain NP, and a WHOLE lot of other places. I'm looking forward to seeing a lot more places as long as I am healthy.

I would love to travel more. My husband likes to go to gambling areas like Tunica MS and Vegas. Me? I like the beach. The best vacation I ever went on was Cancun. My dream vacation, however, would have to be a month in Scotland. *Sigh*

We love to travel, and we try to take several trips a year. Sometimes the trips are just extended weekends and some are 1-2 weeks. We are planners! We research the vacation site and hotels online, and we buy travel guides. We like to take full advantage of the time we have in each place.

Ellen, you've been to some of my favorite places! I loved Yellowstone and Glacier and would go back in a heartbeat. Once we don't have kids to drag along, we'll probably be much looser about reservations. Megan

Kimberly, if your DH doesn't care for Scotland, count me in! I'd love to go!! :)

Cheri, do you have a favorite guide? I like pix but need insider info like best places to go. My DH and I did a lot of long weekends when we were first married.
