I didn't attend this year's Romance Writers of America conference. This year, for the first time since I can't remember when, I was a stay-at-home while all the other conferees went off to the designated city--San Francisco, this time around--and had fun.
Did I cry, did I pout, did I stomp around the house in a poor-little-me pity party?
Well...yes, of course, I did! At least, a teeny-weeny part of the time. ;-)
The other--and much greater--part of the time, I spent with my fingers on the keyboard, pounding away at my work in progress. I've been off from the day job for the summer and making the most of it.
So, while I didn't schmooze with agents and editors and authors and writers, didn't workshop till I dropped, and didn't party into the wee hours, I have to admit--I had myself a wonderful time!
I'd love to hear what you all have been doing during the summer, the places you've been, the things you've accomplished, the projects you've finally crossed off your To-Do lists.
Me, I'm going back to the keyboard right now. But I'll be sure to stop by to see what you've been up to!
All my best to you,
Barbara

I didn't make it to the conference either. I want my first one to be closer to home - so that will be next year or the year after. Or at least in the same time zone!
So far for the summer - it isn't like when I was a kid and had nothing to do all day but swim or read. Now I work all day and mow grass on the weekends (when it's not too blazing hot!) and work on my story most evenings. I have a list of writing goals, but sadly, nothing has been crossed off yet. At least I have ideas for when I'm finished this story!

I haven't really done anything this summer.....at least not yet. But I have some possible plans up my sleeve for later in the summer. I am planning on doing some traveling.
Hi Barbara!
I certainly missed you in SF, but I'm jealous of all the work you got done!
We're going on a short family vacation to Michigan next weekend. I've never been there but heard it's beautiful!

Hi, Marcie,
Kudos to you for getting down to work on your story, even after a busy day.
I know what you mean about those days as a kid. Wasn't it wonderful when all we had to worry about was what time the library opened and when the ice-cream truck would be around? LOL
Thanks for writing.

Hi, Ellen!
Sometimes those are the best summers--when you have absolutely nothing planned.
Best,
Barbara

Shelley,
Well, I have that teeny-weeny little part of me that's envious of you, too. ;-)
Have fun in Michigan!

All I have donr this summer is work in my yard. Just had foot surgery, so going anywhere is out.
Estella, hugs on your surgery. Hope the recuperation is going well.
I'm surprised you can do yard work--I'd probably beg off! ;-)
Best,
Barbara

Thanks, Christa. Much appreciated. Will let you all know when I have news. ;-)
Congrats on getting the painting done--that's a big job.
The rest of your summer--mostly reading--sounds perfect to me!
Best,
Barbara
