Spring has sprung

Spring has arrived here in the Pacific Northwest. I actually live in Canada, so I’m even a little further north than the Pacific Northwest. Most people—me included!—associate Canada with long, cold winters but here on the west coast, spring arrives early.

Last weekend my husband mowed the lawn for the first time this year, and this weekend he swept off the patio and set up the patio furniture. Other signs of spring are everywhere, from gardens to duck ponds. Ornamental fruit trees are in full bloom, there are daffodils everywhere, and ducklings will soon be paddling around our ponds.

I’ve lived on the Canadian prairies and I know a thing or two about winter, so I especially savor an early spring. Still, this year we’re worried about family and friends who live in places that still have severe winter weather conditions and the threat of floods and tornadoes. If we could send a little springtime your way, you can be sure we would.

We’ve had a grey Easter weekend and I'm one of the world's worst photographers, but I thought I'd post these pictures anyway. No matter what your weather was like, I hope you had a wonderful Easter!

Nice pictures! Makes me even more anxious for Spring to reach my neck of the woods. We've had sunshine for a few days so I guess that's a start. Much better than the rain clouds. *G*

I'm in Ontario(down by Niagara Falls) and our landscape don't look like that. We still have snow on the ground, mind grass is peeking through a lot of places. But no flowers, ducks or blossoms.

Jennifer, I'll take sunshine over rain clouds any day. But I'll take rain clouds over the snowfilled variety ;)

Christa, all winter we've been watching news reports about the record-breaking snowfall in Ontario. Glad to hear the grass is finally starting to emerge.

I also live in the Pacific Northwest a lot further south than you. Spring has also come to our area, altho we are supposed to have rain and wind tomorrow.

These photographs are beautiful, Lee! I'm happy to hear you have green grass and not snow! :)

Thank you for sharing the lovely pictures. The weather was nice and sunny here in NW Florida this weekend so I certainly can't complain.

There is nothing cheerier (imho) than a cluster of daffodils! They always remind me of the year (a couple of decades ago) when I rode my bicycle from London, England to points north. I got to the city of York in late April, I think, when the slopes below the ancient town walls were massed with bright yellow blooms – what a lovely sight!

Then I rode into the Yorkshire dales and got snowed on, but still….

There's something about the unpredictability of spring that makes me appreciate the flowers and the days of sunshine and warmth.

Lee, those were nice pix! My family drove to Destin FL from the Midwest last week. After seeing the green fields and flowers and feeling the warmth of the sun, I wasn't sure I'd get them all home. :) We had snow for Easter!Back in my sweater today, eager for flowers.

Rachel, a springtime bicycle tour of England sounds so wonderful! Well, except for the snow!

Hi, Megan! Great to hear you're safely home from your vacation.

Easter is really early this year. I'm sure that accounts for all the snow on what we normally like to think of as a flower-filled holiday.

Ah, very nice. I can practically "feel" spring from those pictures. :)

I hope you'll "experience" spring soon, Jennifer!

Ivka, your garden sounds wonderful! A couple of years ago I turned a half barrel into a little pond with fish and water plants. I loved it, but unfortunately the racoons loved it too!

Thanks Lee! I used to have few small fishs, after blue herron ate 2 and something ate 3rd,never got fish again . But every year frogs end up living there, so I just live them. This winnter was pretty mild so frogs are alive and they don't like clean water.

Ivka, I'd live with frogs too. Well, not with them, but have them in my garden! A tree frog sometimes hangs out in my neighbor's laurel hedge. Its croaking sounds like a creaky old gate.
