Television Premiere Week

Several of my favorite shows have their season premieres this week and I’m really looking forward to them. The Office, Grey’s Anatomy, Brothers and Sisters. My current top favorite, Men in Trees, doesn’t start until October 12, so I’m doing my best to be patient I also enjoyed October Road last spring and I hope it’ll be back, although I’ve heard that if it is, we might not see it until sometime in 2008.

Both Men in Trees and October Road are a lot like Harlequin American Romances, don’t you think? Everyday people overcoming difficulties with the help of their family and friends, and finding love and happiness in the communities they call home. I used to love Gilmore Girls for the same reason.

I find these shows to be wonderfully entertaining, but as a writer I also learn a lot from watching them. Once I’m hooked on a show, I’m intrigued to see how the writers develop the characters and their story arcs. In a way, a season of the show is like book and each episode is a chapter. This is also the focus of my new blog, The Writer Side of Life, and I hope you’ll drop by and visit me there, too!

I’d love to know what everyone plans to watch this week. What’s your favorite show? Any other fans of The Office who can’t wait to find out how Jim and Pam’s date went? ;)

Dancing with the Stars starts tonight - I've just recently found that show. Survivor started last week. My next favorites: Boston Legal, CSI (original), Greys, NICS, and Shark.

My current absolutely fave shows are actually over for their "seasons": "Eureka" and "The Closer".

Catslady and Nathalie, I've never watched Dancing with the Stars, but American Idol/Canadian Idol are my guilty pleasures.

Ellen, I hope you do give Men in Trees and October Road a try. I'm sure they're not for everyone, but they work for me :)

Lila, a lot of my friends are Ugly Betty fans. I've been tempted to watch it but there never seems to be enough time.

Wow, lots of crime shows fans. I don't watch any of the CSIs, but I have watched Without a Trace. I love the way they unravel the mystery in each episode.

Friday Night Lights doesn't start till next week, and neither does Supernatural!

I hate that they moved The Office to 8 - now it's opposite Grey's AND Supernatural.

I hate to admit it, but I don't watch a lot of television! Busy reading and writing, mostly. But we do watch a ton of movies. :)

Although now that I'm listening to this, I'm starting to think I just may have to take a peek at the upcoming offerings. A lot of things sound good!

I've been known to watch from the website when I have to miss a show. But they don't show whole episodes of The Office :(

I watch Numbers, Without a Trace, Bones and Smallville. That's about it. I know. I'm boring.

Mary, several of my favorites are doubled up this season. We haven't entered the age of TiVo at my house, but we have two TVs and VCRs. I'll be making good use of them!

Michele, you are NOT boring. You are one of the busiest people I know!

Heather, I live in Canada and have discovered that shows on US network websites are not available here. CTV, the largest Canadian TV network, puts a lot of shows on its website, but they can only be accessed by computers located in Canada. I think it has something to do with copyright but I'm not sure.

Christa, I've watched both episodes of Gossip Girl and liked it much more than I expected to. The opposite is true of the practice, which is my blog topic today.

So many people rave about Ugly Betty that I've decided to check it out tonight. What does everyone think? Can I jump in and pick up the storyline without having seen the first season?

Lee, my daughter started me watching Don't Forget the Lyrics which I'll never see once SUPERNATURAL starts running new shows THIS Week! We did watch some episodes of So You Think You Can Dance, since she's taken dance since she was four, but I don't care for the judges being mean.
I also love BONES, Heroes and Numb3rs, but now that Gilmore Girls is off I'll have to find something else to watch when I'm not writing. Love those character arcs! Megan Kelly
