I love the holidays. No, really I do.

Or at least I’m trying to. Up until three years ago, my husband worked in retail. So from Thanksgiving until Christmas all he heard every day were Christmas songs. By the time he got home if I had Christmas music playing, he grimaced until I turned it off. He hated it. But he’s beginning to come around now that he’s in a different field. He even went shopping with me tonight. Not at a mall mind you, but shopping and that’s a big deal for him.

Funny thing is, I’m the one who hasn’t been in the Christmas spirit this year. Even with a brand new granddaughter, the holiday mood has escaped me. So back to my earlier comment, I’ve been playing lots of Christmas music to try to get in the spirit. At home and in the car. I took my mom and her sisters to a live Vocal Majority Christmas performance that was wonderful. We got into a discussion after Vocal Majority as to what the best Christmas song is. One started out with how O Holy Night makes her tear up. Her twin likes Silver Bells because it makes her smile. My mom chose White Christmas because it reminds her of WWII. I have quite a few favorites, but The Christmas Song is topping my list this year. You know, ‘Chestnuts roasting on an open fire’. I’m also fond of Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow because of the romantic element.

So tell us what your favorites are and why. Do they remind you of a special person or Christmas memory?

If you have time, please stop by the Harlequin Community Open House tonight. The Harlequin American chat is from 7:00 – 8:00 EST. Hope to see you there.

For me, it just hasn't felt like Christmas, even yet. I've been playing the songs since Thanksgiving, but something feels off this year. Maybe it's the thought that this Christmas will be the last for a year with my husband at home before he leaves for deployment. Or it's because of all the turmoil that's been going on around me.

Today I finished decorating, even though we'll be gone for Christmas. Now the feeling is seeping in.

But my favorite songs are The Christmas Song, sung by Karen Carpenter and Silent Night.

Thanks for stopping by. It must be in the air this year. I've heard more people who just can't capture the spirit. Will keep your husband in my prayers. My sons both were in the Army at the same time and I remember how hard that was.

Like you, the decorating and music has helped, but I'm just not there yet.

Hi guys,
I'm trying hard to have the spirit. We decorated the tree last night --finally. We got a the tree a week ago. But two teens working retail after school and on weekends makes it hard to find a time when we are all home at the same time. But last night was it. And I should have just done it w/o them. My oldest daughter got all snarky about my youngest daughter cramming every ornament in the samespot and hurt her feelings, youngest went running off crying to her room. My husband was only interested in eating dinner and my son wanted to rough-house around the tree until I thought it would come tumbling down.
The rest of the house still needs decorating. I admit, I was too ambitious to think we could get it all done in one evening when everyone had worked and was tired.
I'll just do it myself tonigiht.
Oh and my favorite song? Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas by Judy Garland OR John Denver and the Muppets. What? It's a great version, really!

Oh, Juliet. How I remember those days. I had on son who loved to get into all the Christmas stuff. The older son and my husband would prefer to just ignore it all. We've still got baking to do this year and I'm curious how that will go with the grandkids.

Love the song and the John Denver part didn't surprise me. The Muppets? You made me laugh. Maybe I'll have to find it on YouTube.

Wow, so relieved, yet sad to hear it's not just me stuck in holiday blah mode. I usually adore this time of year, so I'm hoping some eggnog, cookies and great music get me back in my Christmas groove.

Winter, prayers to you and your husband. I can't even imagine how you must be feeling.

My fave song? White Christmas!!
