Or whatever time of day you’re reading this, I hope you’re having a grand time!
Lucky me, to find my blog date coinciding with St. Patrick’s Day. And seeing as I’m a good part Irish--in fact, more Irish than anything else--I couldn’t have asked for a better day to send a shout-out to you all.
Since I’m on a diet at the moment, I imagine you’ll understand when I say food is all I can think about. And one of my favorite things about St. Paddy’s Day is the delicious dinner that’s such an essential part of the holiday.
Mmm.... Corned beef, cabbage, and carrots, of course. My mouth is watering at the thought of a plateful! Or maybe two....
My next Harlequin American Romance (publication date and title to be determined) will be about an eccentric Irish family. Sure and you know they’ll be enjoying the traditional meal.
Will you?
If you’re Irish, or even if you’re not, is your mouth watering in anticipation of that delicious Irish dinner, too?
Of course, the Irish don’t have a monopoly on good food. I think every nationality has its own time-honored traditions when it comes to meals. Again, since I’m on that nasty diet and all I can do is think about food, naturally I’m a glutton for punishment. So, please tell me...
On special occasions, what does your family put on the table?
All my best to you,
Barbara

I never cared for corned beef, but my mom used to like it. I'm thinking of having spaghetti tonight.
My special times depends on how mnay people are invited. For a smaller group, I might make Swedish meatballs. If we have a large group, we usually make a turkey with all the trimmings.
You're inspiring me to go back on my diet. :)
Edie - LOL I'm glad I can be called an inspiration to someone.
Hey, spaghetti works for me. And I don't mind Swedish meatballs, either. Yum!
Darn, why is talking about food so much fun! ;-)))
Thanks for posting.

Hey, Barbara. I'm not a big fan of corned beef and cabbage, either, but I do love green margaritas!!
I'm mostly German and Hungarian so for New Year's Day, we always have roast pork and sauerkraut or else we get a year's worth of bad luck. Here in the South, they require black-eyed peas for good luck. Yuck!
Easter is always ham, potato salad and baked beans. I guess that goes back to my childhood when we used to come home from midnight Mass and pig out. Christmas is steak and gravy, my kids' favorite.
BTW - Thanks for making me think about all this good food. It will really help my diet!!
Liz - sorry about sabotaging your diet! I know just how you feel. LOL
All those meals sound WONDERFUL. Pork and sauerkraut! Mmm...I haven't had that in forever.
Thanks for the memories. ;-)

I love corned beef and cabbage! For the last two holidays my family had opted for eating out as a group.
Mary,
There's a lot to be said about eating out: no dishes, and--if you're dieting--maybe no leftovers. LOL
Thanks for stopping by.

Barbara, ust finished having corned beef, cabbage, and potatoes. Totally delicious, but I usually only get to have it on St. Patty's Day. It's one of my favorite holidays. No fuss, no muss.
As for other holidays, Easter is usually ham with a million sides because we get together with family and it's usually a HUGE meal.
Then there's the Fourth of July and that's always a cookout, usually bbq chicken at home. It's another of my favorite holidays. Are you finding a trend there? Favorite holidays = the ones with the least amount of work/stress. *G*
Jennifer,
Mmmmm...it's all good!
Glad you enjoyed your corned beef and cabbage. And I definitely like the idea of no muss, no fuss.
It's funny about the once-a-year meals, isn't it? We don't usually have the corned beef, either. Turkey's reserved for Thanksgiving, of course, but we'll usually do something else for Christmas.
Guess it's *not* having those things so often that makes them special.
Thanks for popping in!

I don't eat corned beef often, but at the Thoroughbred track here in Hot Springs (Oaklawn Race Tract), they have THE BEST corned beef sandwiches EVER. That sandwich with a cold beer...oh my!
Cyndi,
OMGosh, corned beef sandwiches... I love 'em! And I don't even want the beer. (grin)
I'll dream of all this good food tonight as I go to sleep on an empty stomach. LOL
