Happy Holidays to You and Yours

The tree’s not up, all the presents have not yet been bought, and the holiday greeting-card list is nowhere near ready to be checked. I may not accomplish every item on my To-Do list--and this won’t be the first time!

I just don’t get it. December rolls around at exactly the same time every year, and somehow it still manages to sneak up on me.

One thing I'd never miss, though, is the chance to say thanks to all of you for stopping by the blog during this year, for reading my posts, and for sharing your thoughts with me.

I hope this holiday season is extra-special for you and that you have a wonderful, happy, and healthy year ahead!

As for me, I’m determined not to let January 1st sneak up on me, so I’m making my New Year’s resolutions now: to find balance in all areas of my life--and to keep an accurate, up-to-date calendar!

I’m giving you a jumpstart, too, because, of course, I’d really like to know...

What’s your New Year’s resolution?

All my best to you,

Barbara

My trees up. It's been up since last December. It's a 2 ft ceramic tree so it stays up year round. I only need to buy 2-3 more presents. Christmas isn't a big production here. We all get together at my parent's for dinner aqnd open presents Christmas Eve. And since some of us feel the financial burden more than others we've gone to just getting presents for the kids.

Okay, Barbara, New Year's resolutions are made to be broken, so here's mine:

Next year I'm going to write the next Best Seller. LOL

Have a Merry Christmas.

My New Year Resolution...Have 2 books ready to pitch at Nationals.

You must hold me (i.e. bee-otch at me) about this on GIAM! :)

I absolutely refuse to make New Year's resolutions because I'll break them anyway. So not making them saves me from getting mad at myself.
However one thing I really need to get done it put up another set of shelves for my books. It's sitting in the box unassembled waiting and waiting........

I've sworn off resolutions, but I do set goals every year. I print them out and post them by my computer. They usually include some big picture points (that sound a lot like resolutions) and some deadline driven objectives.

I love New Year's Day. I always set aside a couple hours to clean my writing office, file papers, toss out stuff, and plan out my new year. All right, there's usually a glass of wine involved, too! No pressure, no deadline that day. Just me, dreaming of all the magic the fresh slate of a new year has to offer! Happy Holidays!

Barbara,
I don't put my Christmas tree away, I just remove the decorations and shove the tree into a corner. It's a put-it-together tree and I hate taking it apart and then reassembling it.

I'll dust off the list I always have and laugh at myself.

Christa, it sounds like you've got it all together and I'm soooo envious. (grin)

Very smart to keep the tree handy, too.

Ellen Too,

Okay, sounds like your resolution is NOT to make a resolution.

But you need those shelves up...hmmm... How about a Year's End resolution to get that project done before December 31? You can do it!

Let me know how it goes.

Amy,

Goals work just as well, if not better.

And, yes, I love that time on New Year's Day when I start the year off right. They say that what you're doing on New Year's is what you'll be doing ALL year. I can't think of anything better than getting--and keeping--my office and files in order. (Although I do it minus the wine; otherwise, I might not find anything until the NEXT year. (grin))

Mary M,

Smart of you, too, to keep that tree handy.

And I'm LOL at your dusting off the list. C'mon, pick one of those items and tackle it this year, okay? And let me know when you've done it!

Oh, boy--if I could do even half of that, I'd be one happy camper this coming year.

I KNOW you can handle both of them. but I'll wish you good luck, anyway! ;-)

Sara - what a beautiful resolution.

You couldn't have presented it any better if you'd wrapped it up and topped it with a bow.

Have a wonderful year making all that come true.

Now, now, Estella, sounds like you've been reading Ellen's posts. (grin)

Why not make one teeny, tiny little resolution...such as, e-mailing me early in January so I can wish you a fabulous year ahead? LOL

There are some great resolutions here! I have to say that I haven't got one yet (my head is still full of Christmas plans!) but now you've got me thinking... Thanks, Barbara. :)

Barbara White Daille said...

Rachel - if I've gotten you thinking, that's all I can ask. LOL

Seriously, when you come up with something, let me know. I'm eager to hear!

So you want me to put up my shelves before the end of the year, huh? I guess I could do that as soon as I rearrange the room it's going in which is one of the reasons it's not up yet.

Donnell Ann Bell said...

Barbara, you are so early, but since we're doing our resolution together, I think we should set a doable resolution at least nine miles a week, which is a minimum of three walking tapes in seven days. What say you ;) Merry Christmas!

That would be correct. 8^)

Good! Then you'll have TWO Year's End resolutions accomplished--and think how great you'll feel about that. ;-))

And don't forget number three, which is to let me know you've succeeded!

I don't think mine took, so I'll try again. I'd like to get on a regular writing schedule. Writing first, email and blogging second. Of course, Sylivia's resolution sounded good!

Edie - this is the first comment I've seen from you. Thanks for trying again.

A regular writing schedule could bring *many* good things. Go for it--and I'll try to keep stride with you!

The tree goes up the weekend after Thanksgiving, no excuses! I'm pretty much done with shopping and baking. My New Year's resolution is to make more time for me and my writing, making sure the family takes it as seriously as I do. I also resolve to finish the 3 wips I've got going.

Maryanne - good for you for being so organized! I remember the days we put the tree up the day after Thanksgiving, too--the only free time we really had. Maybe we should go back to that plan.

As for your resolutions, what a wonderful year it will be if you finish all 3 works in progress, won't it?

Sounds doable. Good luck! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Best,

Barbara

Hi, Barbara. My tree's up but bare underneath. The closet's stacked with gifts and awaits inventory to see what's left to buy. Mostly stocking stuffers. Unusual this year, as I normally have my list and check off purchases as I go. Somehow everything will come together and I'll be smiling when family bursts through the door Christmas Eve. Resolutions don't work long around this house, so I set goals instead. Family comes first with me and those goals are to spend more quality time and visiting more often. Writing is on another goal list. It's growing every day. But, the main goal is to complete the three WIPs and submit, submit, submit this upcoming year.

Happy Holidays and Blessings to you and your family.

Hi Barbara!
I lost 14 pounds over the course of 2008, so my goal is to lose another 14 pounds and stay healthy. Another importat goal is to finish the 2 NaNo books and keep submitting until somebody falls in love with my work.
Have a wonderful Christmas with your family.
*hugs*
June

Carol - family's always first!

Good for you for making writing goals, too. Three seems to be the lucky number for works in progress around here.

I'm actually working on three connected books, myself, so here's hoping you, Maryanne, and I ALL get those triple projects done!

Hi, June!

Kudos to you for the weight loss. Would love to know your secret--email me, PLEASE! LOL

You're in the groove on that, and I know NaNo has you primed for the writing.

I'm predicting 2009 is going to be a fabulous year for you. You go, girl!
