What's your favorite costume?

It's almost the end of October, and Halloween will soon be upon us.

I love Halloween. And yes, it's partly because I'm a candy kind of girl. Don’t even get me started about chocolate! LOL

But for the blog today, how about we stick to something less fattening?

Let's talk about getting dressed up for the Big Night of trick-or-treating. Of course, like me, I'm sure you've worn many, many costumes over the years, from the most simple to the extravagantly elaborate.

As a teenager, my favorite costume was dressing up as a hobo. It was easy. It was cheap.

Heck, it was do-it-yourself:

Torn jeans, one of my dad's old flannel shirts, a pair of filthy, stinky sneakers my mom thought I'd tossed out long ago, and a worn-out bandana from the rag bag—and I was good to go.

Oh, along with the liberal application of black marker and eyebrow pencils to add that special down-on-my-luck touch. (smile)

My all-time favorite costume, though, was comprised of an old billowy ball gown with a "diamond" inset at the waist and a long gauzy train, strappy sandals, a pair of elbow-length gloves, and a "diamond" tiara. I felt regal and royal and really, really grown-up. That was probably the year I turned seven. LOL

And it does show that I've always been a romantic at heart, doesn't it?

How about you? Please share your favorite costume ever—one worn by you or one of your kids or grandkids!

All my best to you,

Barbara

My fav would have to be Yoda. DD found the costume on the internet for grandbaby in a size 12 months. They found him a tiny light saber at the dollar store. Being so small, he looked just like Yoda, who also happens to be one of my all time fav characters.

I was a hobo in high school, too. Did you ever use that Black Cat, licorice gum, to remove your front teeth? Too ugly!

Once I went as a mummy and wound myself up completely in forty yards of cheescloth. And found out I couldn't go to the bathroom... oh no!

Linda - I'm shuddering over the mummy costume. What a disaster! LOL

No, I never knew about the gum, but it sounds like it would've been perfect.

As for Yoda, he's one of my all-time favorites, too! I have a few photos of him around my office and his encouraging words--"Do or do not. There is no try."--on my bulletin board.

I can just imagine your DGS in the costume!

Thanks for sharing.

I also loved being a hobo. Funny. And a gypsy sort of along the same line. Huge hoop earrings, lots of bracelets to clink, skirt, and off the shoulder blouse. A little extra makeup.

But the easiest was a bunny - sweats, a cotton ball for a tail and those bunny ears on a headband. That was it, folks. And it adds a whole new meaning to comfortable.

Mom made me a "I Dream of Jeanie"..two piece bathing suit, billowing legs added to bottom. Veil for head and under chin. I looked awesome.

What cracks me up is remembering the trick-or-treating wearing coats (it was cold) so no one even saw the costumes. LOL

Cynthia - I'll bet you did look awesome. That sounds like a great costume.

And you're so right about the coats and the cold. If the weather was in between, my mom would have us put sweats on under our costumes. In fact, I think I wore a sweatshirt under my ball gown, which gave it a completely different look. LOL

Pamela - I remember those bunny costumes! I never wore one, but I did think they looked comfortable.

Seems like many teenagers had the same idea with the "dressed-down" look. ;)

Thanks for posting.
