Cleaning out the closet

My once ample closet is crowded and messy. Or was! It’s neat and clean now, mainly because I spent part of the weekend paring down the mess. Those suits, skirts, slacks and tops I haven’t worn in several years. The belts that (horrors!) no longer fit, and all those purses packed into the shelf over the clothes. Not to mention the shoes… I gritted my teeth and put them into boxes to donate to charity. Adios, baby. Buh—bye, and it’s been fun.

The give-away pile is huge! I hope that some woman/women in need will be able to use these things.

It feels great!
Next, I will tackle the dreaded utility room.

I wish you all clean closets and tidy houses.

I have a 6'x15' closet and most of it is used for everything but shoes and clothes.

Ha! So what do you do with your clothes and shoes?

I have the hardest time culling winter clothes. They get so little wear that they go out of style before I'm tired of them.

Moving to a four-seasons climate (Illinois) from a usually warm one (north Florida) presented a unique challenge in the clothing department. Over the last few weeks I sorted our clothes and put most of them in those vacuum-hose sealed bags I found on sale for $4.99 at Aldi's. In the process I put together a huge pile to donate (essentially anything without worn-out fabric or missing buttons or broken zippers.) Someone can definitely use these things. Kudos to you for giving away what you no longer want. One woman's trash is another woman's bounty.

Bettye- You're so smart! Those bags sound like a terrifi idea.

Heather- Wow, you must live in a very warm place. :-) I live in Seattle, and we wear summer stuff for about 6-10 weeks. Just the opposite of you! Hmm... maybe we should trade clothes?! Ha!

I try to do the closet (and house) once a year. It's the bookshelves that need culling. It's less of a headache buying a new bookcase.

I love to clean my closet... and I too hope that someone will get a good use for all the things I give-away!

Your post has made me a bit guilty... I know I should clean my closet... eventually.

Well, Nathalie-
You'll get to it when you get to it. :-) And when you do, you'll feel so good! You may even become self-righteous about it. I'd certainly understand. :-)
