BRING ON THANKSGIVING

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. Fun, family and eating. It can’t get any better than that. The only stress is hours of planning and cooking, but I like the scents and the warmth of a kitchen bubbling with tasty foods. I seem to wait all year for turkey and dressing with cranberry sauce. And pumpkin pie! We never have that any other time of the year and I always look forward to it. That day I don’t think about diet, fats or carbs. I just enjoy the food and it’s probably the only day of the year I do that. Bring on Thanksgiving!

We all have favorite foods. During the holidays my mom always made black cherry Jell-O salad. No one liked it but her. She made it because it was something she liked and she was the cook. I’m making a grocery list and I thought about her salad. I have her recipes in a box, those she had recipes for. I might dig it out and give it a try. I’m older and I might like it now. That’s one thing about getting older you’re willing to compromise and try new things. But the old staples will always be my favorite.

What are your favorite foods at Thanksgiving?

Don’t miss the Harts of the Rodeo series. The books make a great Christmas gift.

Happy Thanksgiving, all.

Linda,

Your mom's black cherry jello salad reminds me of what my grandmother called her "congealed" salad. We use orange jello, apricot baby food and cream cheese in ours...and hubby says it isn't Thanksgiving unless the congealed salad is on the table.

My favorites include turkey, mashed potatoes, and oven brown potatoes. I also enjoy pumpkin pie for dessert.

Leigh,
That sounds delicious. I'll eat anything with cream cheese.

Now I'm curious what my mom's salad had in it. I never watched her make it. After I finish this chapter, I'm digging it out. LOL

The highlight of our Thanksgiving table is the 30 pound turkey and brussel sprouts. My family love brussel sprouts and no matter how many I make there never is one scrap of leftover brussel sprouts.

BW,
My side of the family has never had mashed potatoes at Thanksgiving. We have sweet potatoes. My husband's side has mashed potatoes, so now it's both. Carb city. LOL I can't wait for pumpkin pie.

Linda,
We're not big on brussel sprouts. Maybe it's how I fix them. How do you make yours? I love trying new recipes.

Turkey isn't my favorite (gasp) but I loved when my mom made it into turkey salad for sandwiches the next day. After my brothers married, they came to Thanksgiving with empty containers for turkey salad. lol My mom's specialty (and now mine I guess) is home made noodles, with chocolate pie to follow. yum

Megan,
We always have turkey sandwiches. Turkey salad? Hmm. Can you share the recipe?

I love home made noodles. My mom used to make them. Of course, I've never mastered it. They never taste like hers. Now chocolate pie I can make. Yum. Yum.

My favorite is the marshmallow topped sweet potatoes. This year it's my turn to prepare the dish and I hope I can do my mom and grandmother's recipe justice.

CrystalGB,
I'm with you. Can't wait for the turkey and dressing. It's just a week away LOL
