Facebook and blogging and tweets—oh, my!

Just last month, I took the plunge into the world of social media by adding a blog to my completely revamped website. And now I’ve joined twitter and Facebook.

Here’s where you can find me:

At my new website and blog: http://barbarawhitedaille.com/

Twitter was a little ornery and wouldn’t allow enough space for my full name, so you can follow me here: http://twitter.com/BarbaraWDaille

At Facebook, I’ll soon be establishing a separate page url, but until that happens, please do a search for my “Barbara White Daille Author” page. Once there, you can “like” it if you feel so inclined. And I would like that very much. ;-)

Meanwhile, I’d also appreciate your input, since I’m such a newbie at all this.

Have you got any helpful hints or suggestions for moving around in these places? Know any good features I might want to check out? Have some ideas for how to keep up with everything without letting it take over your life? Because, as I’ve already discovered, it’s easy to become addicted to online socializing. LOL

I look forward to your info here and hope to see you over at twitter and Facebook, too!

Thanks in advance.

All my best to you,

Barbara

Barbara,

How funny--I just spent the weekend trying to update my presence on all the social media forums. It's overwhelming, isn't it? I did download TweetDeck to help manage my Twitter time, and in a single day, I discovered how helpful it was. Also, there's a social media guru out there, Kristen Lamb who has a blog and offers weekly tips on how to maximize social media. She also has a great book (I just read it this weekend--HUGE help!) that breaks down each of these media sites and gives how-tos on setting up everything. Enjoy!

Amy - yes, it is overwhelming. Your suggestions sound like just what I need to help with that feeling, though.

Thanks so much for posting them!

Amy knows more than I do. I'll have to take her advice. I'm a little overwhelmed by Twitter and FB. I do try to go on it every day, but I usually just comment on other people's Twitters and FB. When I have more time, I'll conquer it. Maybe.

I have stayed away from Twitter but I am a veteran facebooker. I do think that the sharing feature is the best when it comes to spreading your message.

It is amazing how many times I post a link and find it has been spread across FB land.

I have a FB page, but very seldom visit.

Edie - I so know that feeling. LOL

Hang in there.

Estella - I think some people take a break and then come back to it when they're ready.

Hi Barbara,

Spooky topic. Ha. I'm a regular user of FB, but I admit that I go for days, maybe weeks, without signing into Twitter. I also had my webpage professionally redone this year. And completed the profile on Amazon when my first book came out. But it's a daunting task to learn all the tricks to each of the systems out there. I've never had a My Space accound and seldom hear it mentioned anymore. Does anyone use it these days?

Hi, Pam,

Welcome to the tricky cyber-world of social media! ;-)

Funny you should mention My Space. I haven't looked into it at all, probably because I don't hear it talked about much anymore, either.

Hi Barbara!
I wrote a post on how to link your Twitter, FB & Myspace accounts to your blog posts...so once you post a blog, it goes everywhere! Here's the link: http://kathrynekennedy.blogspot.com/2009/09/for-writers-using-twitter-to-link-your.html
I hope this helps, and best wishes!

Barbara,
When you gather all your helpful hints, you'll have a workshop for the rest of us techno-challenged writers.

At least i no longer feel alone in my incompetence with social media. I have a facebook, and had help putting together a website, but the rest of this is mostly a blurr as I struggle to become socially adept.

I found the page and I clicked LIKE.

I used to go on myspace, but haven't been on it in forever. I update Twitter ever so often. I do like FB, but the games on there are very addicting.

Barbara White Daille said...

But...but...Angi...

I'd have to get over being techno-challenged and understand it all first! LOL

Nicole - thanks so much for liking my page! Stop by whenever you're on FB.

As for the games...don't tell anybody, but I when I get any messages about those, I just hit delete. There are only so many hours in the day, ya know?
