Crossed Eyeballs & Dog Naps

Daisy in the snow. This was one of the few times she didn't run off!!

My head hurts!!!! My eyes feel crossed and my cheeks swollen and achy. I don't mean to be a Debbie Downer, but this has been going on since Christmas, and the constant pain is getting old!!

When I first started writing, I attended every conference I could afford in order to soak up wisdom from pubs and editors. One thing that soon became clear was that in order to be a professional writer, one needs to write. Every day. No exceptions. Well, while that's a wonderfully noble idea I do my best to achieve, lately, I'm failing miserably!! My normal ten to twenty pages are down to three to five.

Hubby keeps telling me to go to the doctor, which seems like a no brainer, but I know she's going to give me antibiotic which makes me throw up. I would rather have a broken leg than a stomachache, meaning here I sit, still whining.

On the upside, my dogs are thrilled with the extra naptime!!

Anyone have old school advice on how to tame unruly sinuses?

For at home treatment, irrigate the hell out of your sinuses. Get a nettie pot or Ocean saline spray in a can (higher pressure than the squeeze bottle) and spray till it gags you. Then hang your head forward and let it seep into your frontal sinuses before straightening out and blowing. Repeat every couple of hours...yes that often if you want it to work.

Also, you can boil FRESH rosemary, sage and thyme on the stove and do the towel over your head steam thing (10-15 min each time). Those herbs have antibacterial/anti-inflamm. properties that help with sinus infections.

BUT...if it's as bad as it sounds, you really do need the antibiotics to take care of it. Otherwise, it'll linger for months and you'll get complications. The at home stuff works better when you start at the first signs. Antibiotics will work faster. I hate them too and I can't take anything on an empty stomach without getting sick. Just ask for the kind you can have with food...that should help...and ask for a diflucan RX right off the bat...that'll keep you from getting a yeast infxn if you're prone to them with antibiotics.

Think of it this way. If you consider how much time must be spent steaming and saline washing, AB will get you back on your writing schedule much faster!

Hope this helps. Feel better!

Actifed works for me. Red box, little white tablet. And it doesn't make me drousy. However, my son swears by the nettie pot mentioned above.

On the positive side, 3-5 pages is more than a lot of us sometimes get in a day.

Feel better soon.

I certainly feel for you, it seems like I have a sinus infection about every two to three months. It gets old fast. I've been sick since Christmas.

I'm sitting here with a pounding headache and my sinuses are swollen too--this must be everywhere now! I can't decide if sitting up is better than laying down.

Sensitivity to antibiotics is miserable. I can't believe the doctor cant' find you something that won't make you sick. My dad has always suffered from sinuses and a specialist told him getting rid of the infection is always a challenge because of how deep the sinus passages are. My MIL uses the irrigation and it works well for her.

My mom swears by a diet heavy on onions and garlic for sinus health.

Thanks to all of you for the wonderful ideas!!! I've tried the nettie pot and despise the drowning feeling, but it does work. Guess it's time to get it out again and suck it up and go to the doctor.

BIG hugs to my fellow sufferers!! I thought this time of year we were supposed to be allergy free??!!
